This might not be the most important feature, after all in the pursuit of a perfect physique, you might be prepared to eat raw eggs blended with sardines!

This is an important point from 2 different aspects. Firstly is the technical side. One of the main reasons why we drink protein is that it is more easily digestible.
This is partly because it is in liquid form, but also due to the structure of the protein chains and the type of manufacturing process.
For example, cold pressed protein powder is far more digestible than protein that was produced using a heat drying process.
The second aspect to this digestion factor is more individual and subjective. Some people better tolerate some forms of proteins over others. For those who are lactose intolerant, soy protein, egg powder, or brown rice protein will sit better with them.
The lactose intolerant protein drinker is an obvious example but many other people experience more subtle digestive complaints. I’ve consumed protein that made me feel bloated or a little sick after, then I have changed brands and then had no problems at all. The ingredient lists might even be similar.
Sometimes your protein brand will include aspartame, sometimes it will be sweetened with Sucralose or Stevia.
You might find that you do not tolerate one sweetener very well. It is difficult to isolate which ingredient is causing the discomfort, so it makes sense to buy smaller amounts of protein powders by different companies.

I only look at the best protein powder manufacturers, then I narrow down between similar products. I weed out any that contain ingredients that have not agreed with me before, or have ingredients that do not suit my objectives.
Once I am down to 5 or 10 choices I buy small packets of each, I consume them one packet at a time, whilst recording my observations. Then when reviewing my notes, I will cross off ones that made me feel a bit bloated or that tasted bad or powdery.
