Before you dismiss this article as a bold-faced recommendation for Tim Ferriss 4 Hour Body, or that I am simply a Tim Ferriss fan, please let me explain where I am coming from here.
At the start of 2012, I spent extra time on my yearly goal setting exercises. At this time I review my goals from the previous year. I make goals of all shapes and sizes in different parts of my life. What I find is that some goals have been achieved, some goals have been missed but are no longer interesting for me.
Then there are the goals that I still want to accomplish but until now have failed to. There was one glaring goal that I so desperately wanted to achieve but had failed.
In fact, out of curiosity I looked over previous years goal setting exercise notes… Guess what? The fat loss goal was there year after year!
I had made efforts on and off, I had tried different diets, I had even gone through periods of OVER TRAINING in the gym… For example an hour of weights followed by an hour of cardio… OUCH!
I suppose, deep down I had almost resigned myself to being fat. Many family members have the same problem, obesity rates are rising all around the World and the number of successful long-term weight loss success stories seem few and far between.
Then I started to wonder, had I really tried EVERY diet, fat loss or weight loss technique? Had I researched the latest in fitness training and dietary planning? I was honest with myself and I had to say the answer was no… Often my attempts at dieting or exercise had fizzled out fairly quickly.
I thought about what I had consumed over the holiday period… Fried foods, cakes, alcohol, ice cream, chips, chocolate, more alcohol, fast food, more fried food, more chips….
Who was I fooling when I told acquaintances and friends that I had tried everything? I might have mentioned that my weight problem was because of my genes, personality, metabolism, big bones etc…
I WAS FOOLING MYSELF… Many of the people I was telling were probably laughing on the inside, as they recalled different occasions when I really stuffed my face with food, then went back for second helpings, or started snacking on chips an hour later!
I realized that I was fooling myself AND making a fool of myself.
Now, I have nothing against fools, they can be quite amusing at times, but I didn’t want to be one.
Tim Ferriss 4 Hour Body was one of many books that I read last year to try and solve my problems
I realized that I had to start my research again. Maybe there were things that I wasn’t aware of? Or new cutting edge findings from the field of science, physical therapy and athletic training. I had to find a way of developing a Fat Loss Mentality in order to make permanent changes to my lifestyle, diet and habits.
How could I develop a Fat Loss Mentality? Where could I find the information that I needed? I had to buy some books…
Fortunately for me, the first book I read was the best one I had ever read, and the most beneficial to me in relation to my goals of lifestyle change and developing a Fat Loss Mentality…
The first book contained a mountain of information. It didn’t contain one new piece of information or technique, it had a pile of them! It wasn’t just about fat loss, or exercise, It had everything…
Some people have called the book over hyped or misleading. I’m wondering if any of the detractors have actually read it? Tim Ferriss didn’t just make stuff up… He spent 3 years testing and consulting with the people at the top of their game. Such as World-class Scientists, Olympic Coaches and Doctors. He explains this on this clip from “The View”:

How is that for successful Goal setting in action?
Now, did I lose the weight because of The 4 Hour Body book? No… Will you definitely lose weight if you buy the book? Of course not…
Only a Fat Loss Mentality can result in permanent weight control. But in order to build a Fat Loss Mentality, you need information, you need inspiration. This is what you will get from The 4 Hour Body.
