Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit. Aristotle

Are you looking for weight loss help? Want to shed the excess fat?

There are 2 weight loss tips that are worth more than all of the others. The most important techniques to master in your journey of weight loss / fat loss are:

Weight loss help tip 1: The practice of Persistence

Persistence is a cornerstone of achieving anything worthwhile. Whether you are an athlete in training to become the best, starting your own business with an uncertain future, or striving for personal transformation. Most people fail because they give up.

Persisting with something negative or futile is silly though. First you have to examine your motivations, are they pure? Will they lead to a better life for yourself without interfering negatively with others. If you achieve your goal, will you be more like the type of person who you admire?

Before climbing the ladder of success make sure your ladder is placed against the right building! Anon.

For example, if you are in business, and you are not providing value to the world, then why are you doing what you are doing? Will you ever achieve real success?

This means we need to live in line with our values, and our goals have to be formed with our values in mind. The last question is… Are your goals realistic and are you making progress? If not, is there a change that you could make to spark more progress?

So, the method, and goal has to be worthy. And you must be honest about your current progress and the chances of future progress. If the answer to these questions are positive. Then never give up, if you fall back a bit then just realize that this is like the ebb and flow of nature, If you plateau, or put weight back on see it as consolidation and give yourself a pat on the back… Then get back to work!

Weight loss help tip 2: The practice of Substitution

If one day you are eating junk food, soft drinks, sitting around watching TV, and generally being unhealthy…

What is the likelihood that the next day you will get up, run 5 miles, eat only raw vegetables and steamed chicken, then spend the evening stretching and meditating?

It’s not going to happen. Although someone somewhere will tell me this is how they started, well done… But it is unlikely for the average person. (But really, well done if you achieved this!)

Most people do better at continual substitution. If you write a list of activities and foods that take you further away from your goals, there must be at least 10 or 20, possibly a hundred if you include text messaging too often, not climbing the stairs instead of the elevator and so on. You can gradually substitute a few at a time, then keep records and work through the list.

For example, if you were to give up sugar, white carbohydrates, artificial sweetener, processed foods, MSG and suchlike instantly…. You will get withdrawal symptoms, much like trying to quit cigarettes. This is because many of these things act like drugs. This is why some soft drinks are nicknamed “liquid crack”, or people talk about a “sugar fix”. Have you ever noticed that some fast food will make you feel ravenous while you are eating it, then you will feel a slight buzz for a while, followed by a feeling of bloatedness and slight nausea? This is like a drug high.

So rather than attempting the difficult task of giving these things up completely, all at the same time, pick a “poison” and substitute it. Swap soft drinks for water. Then in a few days or even weeks, substitute refined sugar for Stevia, or cut it out of your diet altogether! It doesn’t matter how long it takes for your complete transformation.

The longer it takes to change, the more ingrained the new habits will be, and you have the rest of your life to enjoy the transformation. Go cold turkey If you can, but constant and never-ending improvement will still get the job done! You don’t need any new weight loss or fat loss hints and tips, you already know what to do. Just do it.

Jason, I really like some of the key points you make here: the importance of persistence, the development of new habits, and the process of change itself, which can be misunderstood. Even small changes can have a big payoff. Thanks for your post!

I have read and learned a lot on the topic, but I still like to continue to learn and practice. “Sharpening the saw”.

Great information. Your ideas for substitutions are really helpful. I sometimes get stuck and just grab what is easy.

Thanks for commenting. Life itself gets easier when we take control of the small things then work our way up the list to the big things.

Excellent article, Jason. Persistance pays! It is one of the greatest keys to success yet one thing far too many people surrender…and love the tip of progressio/substitution! For most that is the best path to long term success!
